No worries, it's not even close to real and the detective basically has an epic freakout over it, but it has to be done to progress to the endgame. Although, there's tons of hints that that's where he's going with it in that area. The "Something Old..." music boxes and everything.

Anecdote time: I was playing Escape from Ravenhearst while my brother was playing Resident Evil 6 next to me. He was fighting the Tyrant!Simmons on the train just as I had to do the "give birth to me" puzzle in the hospital. The first time I got it wrong and the(fake)baby exploded, he glances over at me with wide eyes and said, "I play survival horror games but that's just fucked up." I had to pause my game for a few minutes I was laughing so hard. Oh Escape. Such a mind screw, but SO GOOD.
