Personality and WoW Role
In a comment so it will collapse.
Re: Personality and WoW Role
The first survey was comparing each class (Death Knights, Warriors, Paladins, Priests, Druids, Shamans, Rogue, Hunter, Warlock, and Mage). Unfortunately just using classing, I could find no significant relationships between class and personality. We hypothesized this was because the diversity in classes. So I grouped based on usual roles ([Group 1] Death Knights, Warriors, and Paladins as Tanks; [Group 2] Priests, Druids, and Shamans as healers; and [Group 3] Rogue, Hunter, Warlock, and Mage as DPS).
After crunching the numbers we got two significant scores. The results indicated a few differences between Group 1 (typically Tanks) and Group 3 (typically DPS). Relative to Group 3, Group 1 displayed less behavioral inhibition and neuroticism, as well as greater extraversion.
Re: Personality and WoW Role
This seems really interesting, and I could read/talk a lot more about it!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 02:16 am (UTC)(link)I don't disagree with the general results (they're kind of obvious if you've ever rolled through LFD), but IMO, you probably would've gotten more accurate numbers if you'd broken it down by spec and split the data into two sets depending on playstyle (those who solo versus those who use LFD/LFR). And personally, I'd like to see if there are personality differences in people who frequently alt versus people with just one main and maybe a couple alts, but that's a different dataset entirely :P
Either way, it's still pretty cool. I don't mean to sound like I hate that you even tried, I just...majored in psych, and my first instinct with any study is to question the hell out of it ^^;
