I'm enjoying the DAO part of this secret...never seen Robin Hood, so I can't comment. But certainly neither DA game has been strong on letting you redeem characters that didn't already want to be redeemed. You can soften them up a bit, but there's several moments with characters in these games where it's clear they're going to do as they do. I think the only character who you can conclusively redeem is Isabela, but then, she kind of wanted to, and she wasn't a bad person to begin with.

If it makes you feel better, the reason they killed her off was because Marian's actress suddenly wanted to leave the show, so who knows what their original intentions for the character were. Also I think there was an interview somewhere where Richard Armitage was even like "yeah, killing Marian was totally OOC for Guy, but a paycheck's a paycheck."

Yeah, he said he had nightmares about having to kill Marian. Those two episodes were just... bad imo. The only good thing to come out of it was trainwreck Guy in S3.

Yeah, trainwreck-Guy was amazing and I guess was the product of RA seriously thinking "Ok, what would actually happen to a person after they ended up doing this nightmarish thing?" He really understands realistic characterisation.

Actually Lucy and Richard said in two different interviews that it was the writers' choice to kill off Marian. Lucy would have been happy to come back for S3 (she did that cameo in the final episode) but Dominic Minghella was totally stuck on the idea of killing her off for the shock value.

There was some weird stuff going on behind the scenes considering all the conflicting reports that were going on regarding Marian's departure, but Richard in particular was pretty adamant that it was DM's decision.

I feel really pedantic about it, but all these years on and I'm STILL not over what they did to Marian. I have to tell as many people as possible that it wasn't poor Lucy's fault... :(

I should probably finish Robin Hood one day but...arg, this show is ridiculous. Damn him for being so beautiful.

That said, I don't actually like Guy that much. I love to look at him and he's an interesting character to watch, but...he is an ass, yea. However I could easily see a character such as him fitting right into a BioWare game with a redemption arc, and that would be pretty awesome. (WHY DID YOU MENTION THIS? NOW I WANT A BIOWARE LOVE INTEREST TO BE MODELED AFTER RICHARD ARMITAGE!)

Well... granted, I haven't seen past the first season (must go back and finish this, if only for the fact that Richard Armitage is fucking smoldering in this; I don't care if his character is awful, I'd watch him read the dictionary in that get-up), but... wait... okay, replaying DAO... I doubt he can be worse than, say, recruiting Loghain? I mean, there are some pretty horrible people in the Grey Wardens; that's kinda the point. (see icon. Love Morrigan.) Redeeming awful people is sorta a theme in the game, IMO.
