and attempting to not let the person know they're eavesdropping.

Wait, where do you get that from? 'cause from what I see in the secret, yeah, the roommate is listening, but there's nothing that she's trying to conceal it, especially since she's presumably listening in for the purpose of being able to talk about whatever ep OP is currently on.

But I guess I'm interpreting the secret from the perspective of being the kind of person most likely to be labeled an obsessed somewhat-creepy roommate, just because I get super-excited about whatever I'm currently into, and I don't always know where the lines of social boundaries lie. It's easy to make mistakes and come on too strong.

Mostly I got it from the rest of the negativity expressed by the OP combined with my own experiences.

Because if the roommate's just randomly overhearing it because she's in the same room then why the fuck if the OP upset?

You know, believe me, I can be that creepy person too and maybe it's just me, but I find honesty the best way to figure out if you've gone too far. It may be awkward but I just put on a bashful face and go, "Hey, I'm really excited by this but I'm not bothering you, am I? Because if I am I can totally do something else. I don't want to make you uncomfortable or anything." Because, yeah, I have come on too strong too. Honesty and asking directly has always worked best for me when I'm worried about it.
