I love Kingdom Hearts, and I haven't had a chance to play 3D to really give an opinion on it, but:

I REALLY FUCKING HATE HOW APPARENTLY EVERYONE IS GETTING A FUCKING KEYBLADE. THAT IS AN INCREDIBLY FUCKING BORING WAY TO GO.

God yes. I agree with this so hard. The first game set it up to be this special...special thing. And it was cool. Since then everybody fucking got a fucking keyblade and it's just not cool anymore.

Says you. I find it interesting, since it's basically more playing into Xehanort's hands--no matter what they do, they're going along his script, because he's orchestrated events so the Worlds call on more Keyblades.

I'm still hot for anything psychologically in depth about refugees in Traverse Town. That's still the most fascinating topic in the entire universe to me and it's years too late.

It was always going to be about the Keybladers. That's why the Keyblade was such a huge fucking deal in KH1.

*snicker* Which is why the fandom joke name for it is "Dream Drop Keyblade." But to be fair, it wasn't that the keyblades were meant for just one person-- BBS stated that there were many keyblades and the pictures of the Keyblade War stated there was a plethora. I was more annoyed at how Sora got shafted.

Hell, the FIRST game shows more than one Keyblade.

And what do you mean "shafted?" He failed the exam. He got lost in the dream, which was the entire point of the conversation between him and Xehanort in Symphony of Sorcery. And he kept trying to fix everything FOR people instead of simply giving them the tools to fix it themselves. It was about damn time he wasn't Mr. Perfect Everything Works Out For Him In The End. And this is from a huge fan of the character.

I have a lot of feelings about DDD, and I am glad someone shares my feelings about Sora in it.

I'm glad he failed for once, since he hasn't really had to earn anything thusfar. He's gotten by, as was revealed, because the baddies basically NEEDED him to succeed for their grand plan. So he was bound to fail. (It's interesting when you look back and realize Roxas and xion were probably an attempt to get around Sora-the-Wildcard-destined-to-be-Thirteen on a technicality.)

Great. Now I want to pick up Kingdom Hearts again. Haven't bothered since KH2, consider how underwhelmingly boring Sora is yet everyone are obligated to love him.

So why doesn't Yensid ever say he simply failed the exam? Seriously. Yensid says they're both worthy, then makes it a one or the other thing, even though it clearly wasn't in the opening conversations about it-- the whole exam judging is just botched, unless it's setting up for a later reveal (which I wouldn't put past Nomura) that explains why Yensid would feel the need to withhold Sora from it without actually saying "this is where you went wrong, idiot" instead of "you did well but Riku did better".

Seriously, I've seen people say this is the message of the game but nothing in the game actually gives the message of 'Riku did it better by being more indirect' (though his philosophy is different, he's just as much as a fixer-upper in his story sections--heck, the main twist of the game is that he instinctively dove into Sora's dream to protect him and fix where Sora's dreams were going wrong).

I do agree on the keyblade thing, and yeah, Sora got lost in the dream, I just don't really see this whole "Riku was giving everyone the tools to help themselves while Sora was just barging in" thing.

He's letting Sora take it again. Sora knows EXACTLY where it went wrong. The situation was odd, so Riku passed where Sora failed because. Riku went above and beyond what was required of him in a situation not even Yen Sid was prepared for, and he PREVAILED.

He's the better MASTER. Their job isn't to get DIRECTLY INVOLVED AND FIX THINGS FOR PEOPLE. And, lol, he didn't fix where Sora's dreams were going wrong. He sensed danger, went off-course, and HAPPENED to end up in Sora's dreams. It wasn't to protect Sora, it was to get the fuck away from Ansem.

And, really. LMAO. Look at fucking Traverse Town. He only gets interested when Joshua brings up Sora, because he's suspicious and knows they should be in the same place. And what about with Quasi? Sora tries to fix Quasi's problems himself. Riku just gives him advice. But that's how Sora works. He thinks he's the hero--hell, he thought the whole test was just a formality, so he failed the second it started. He wants to help so bad, he's taken to the habit of fixing everyone's problems FOR them.

yeah, i guess that part was kind of fucked. really i don't even blink anymore. after the time-travelling xemnas clone plotline was revealed i was willing to accept anything. it doesn't matter. not in kingdom hearts.

squenix must know this. nomura could re-release the 1st game with all the characters replaced with butts drawn in MS paint and nerds would clamor to gamefaqs with novellas tracing their fart sounds to early ansem reports.
