Have you ever been envious of the way a fictional character sees the world?

Or inspired by it, to be less depressing.

Dr. Manhattan! I think it would be interesting.

Pretty much all the time when I'm watching Doctor Who. The Doctor and his companions are all so righteous and compassionate and I'm really, really not.

Case in point:
> Torchwood/Hariett Jones blowing up the Sycorax ship in "The Christmas Invasion". I would have done it, too.
> Donna trying to save people in "The Fires of Pompeii". I wouldn't have even bothered trying once the Doctor mentioned the consequences of messing with fixed points in time.
> The Doctor saving those people in "The Waters of Mars". I wouldn't have. Heck, I wouldn't have even hesitated to leave 'em.

That series makes me feel like such a shitty person.

Well, to be fair, all those things are portrayed as morally ambiguous/difficult, not "you're terrible if you do this".

I'm really impressed at how the Doctor still goes all agog and calls things beautiful even though by now he's probably seen the most beautiful places in the universe 500,000,000 times before, and gets a huge kick of of even tiny little pointless things he thinks are fun/cute/cool/funny/exciting. Even though he super-duper old and has a time machine that he can go see anything with, he still thinks dumb shit like beetles and jelly babies and goofy Earth songs and snow on Christmas and gift shops in hospital lobbies and bananas and bow ties are worth squeeing over. I wish I could keep my appreciation up like that. And I'm like 1/50th of his age.

I love that about the Doctor. His sense of wonder and appreciation for everyone and everything is beautiful.

+infinity to all of this. Especially in the context of how many terrible things he's seen as well.

Man, you just gotta appreciate the little things to come out the way the Doctor sees the universe.

I'd like to spend a day inside Luna Lovegood's head. Only a day, though.

Lina Inverse from Slayers - weirdly enough, since I wouldn't actually want to be like her. But I admire her strength of will, and how she sees problems as things you overcome rather than as obstacles. She sometimes makes tactical retreats, but she doesn't run away from her problems. In fact, I have told myself "If Lina Inverse can hold on to the Ragna Blade long enough to cut through a Mazoku, so long it makes her cough up blood then I can damn well keep walking/proofreading/whatever".

Ummm, quite a few Marvel characters. *Points to icon.* Tony's definitely one of them. I wish I could look at the world and see things that could be created that no one else does. Cloak, from the Cloak and Dagger series, also. There was this old 80s comic where he mentions how he sees the entire world as little specks of light and how the good people always shine brightly. It seemed so beautiful to be able to literally see the goodness in people.
