Spilled water on my keyboard.

My niece sneaked into my room and knocked over a glass of water near my laptop. She then fled the scene without mentioning it, so when I come back 15-20 minutes it's to find a computer that's mostly soaked. My keyboard has been acting up since. For example, whenever I press the "S" key what pops up is "SD" and vice versa. Needless to say, I'm panicking.

I shut it off, turned it over on a dry towel, and have left it alone all day (currently using sis's computer). I'm scared to so much as touch it. I just cannot afford to replace the keyboard if it remains that way.

I also have a crapload of writing to do this weekend, and if I can't use my computer I'm pretty much screwed.

Also: I'm probably the only girl in existence who doesn't own a hair dryer. That would have been SO helpful, JFC.

Bury it in uncooked rice and leave it alone for at least 24 hours. Even if you get your hands on a hair dryer, DO NOT use a hair dryer on it. Even the lowest temp setting can really screw things up on your keyboard.

Try uncooked rice. It should soak up the remaining water.

It's kind of late, though. Hope it help you some!

Uncooked rice but it should be fine if you just leave it overnight if you turn your keyboard upside down in it.

Ditto the two above. I've never tried the rice method personally, but I see it mentioned all the time -- so it's gotta be at least somewhat useful!

That said, when you plug it back in and turn on your computer, keep a close watch on the keyboard! Be mindful of any sparks or smoke, and don't leave the room unless someone else is keeping tabs on it.

Definitely do the rice thing, and if that doesn't work, maybe try and get a cheap USB keyboard, until you can get it fixed properly?
