In the games, Colress does ask the player character to prove that he and Team Plasma are wrong, that he doesn't want the mistreatment of pokémon to be his one true answer. The basis for the good-person argument has no relation to his appearance, age, or weight. Canon gives us a good reason to think that he's not really a bad guy through-and-through, and this occurs in other fandoms with less-attractive characters quite often. So, I'm going to have to disagree with you.

Personally, I love his design, but I still think his methods were beyond cruel. He didn't have to do any of it, but he made his choices. But that doesn't make him evil. Please keep in mind that, like above anon, I am only speaking of the game character, not his anime or manga counterparts, so I might be missing the point.

The only place I've seen the prison rape joke is in tandem with reposts of that bottom image. And I've only seen those in a part of the internet that makes me question why you'd bring up "taste" at all. I thing it's unfunny regardless.

When does he ask the PC to prove that Team Plasma is wrong? I don't remember that, but I haven't played in English.

He gave me the impression that he wasn't necessarily trying to hurt anyone and clearly didn't agree with Ghetsis's intentions to take over the world, but was so wrapped up in his science experiments that he didn't care that people and Pokemon WERE being hurt because of his actions, which does make him evil IMO.

(Anyway I haven't seen this part of the anime, so this may be irrelevant to the secret assuming OP is referring specifically to that, but yeah.)

It's been a while since I played it, but I remember throughout the game he was saying that he didn't know where he stood on it and he wanted to watch the player to see which side was right. Which to me is... yeah, come on, if you can't tell that abusing Pokemon is wrong you're just as bad as the abusers.

Oh yeah, that. I interpreted all of that, along with giving you his prototype machine and sending you out to fight Ghetsis and pretty much all of his interactions with you, as part of his "research" - playing mind games with the PC to see what she/he would do, because he wanted to observe how he/she "draws out the power of Pokémon" or whatever. I never thought he genuinely couldn't tell what was right.

Mm, I believe there are quotes from when he speaks to the player in Driftveil, after the tournament, and then one prior to one of his battles. At one point, he says something along the lines of "Everyone thinks that the bond between humans and pokémon is what brings out their potential, and I'd like that to be true, so prove it to me right now."

I don't have the actual quotes because I will admit that I am really lazy. If I am remembering this wrong, feel free to correct me, hahah!
