LIFE BEYOND EARTH.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Do you think there's life beyond Earth?

Do you want there to be?

Probably. Why wouldn't there be? And I don't care, because it doesn't affect my life now.

Yes and I don't especially care.

It's really likely considering how vast the universe really is.

And if not for whatever reason, I'm pretty sure tardigrades could make it happen.

I'd fine with it, too. Short of alien genocide, not much I can do about it.

Given that the universe is theoretically infinite, that means there's an infinite number of possibilities for life forms to evolve. And even if it weren't infinite, there's still how many million fucking stars and planets? I definitely don't think we're alone in the universe or even the galaxy.

That being said, I strongly doubt any meeting between sentient species is going to be very cordial.

Cosmic panspermia FTW!

Seriously though, IDK if there's life beyond Earth, but I think it's possible.

Yes, I think extra terrestrial life is very, very likely.

I think it's really interesting, and finding any kind of ETs would be awesome to me. I think I'll have been dead for quite a while before we get to that point though.

I just watched Dark Skies last night. Dear god NO.

...but the x-files fan in me thinks it would be kinda neat. :(

Yes and yes.

The universe is too vast for life to have evolved on *only one planet* out of billions. That's just silly.

Yes and yes.

I don't know if there's intelligent life, much less life we'd be able to communicate with, much less intelligent communicating life we'll encounter, but I'm pretty sure there are at least some microbes out there somewhere.

God yes. With how big this universe is, it's silly to think there's just.... Us.

Do I want there to be? Sure, but I don't see any contact happening for more than a few lifetimes, sadly.

I think there's definitely life. I don't know if there's anything that we would be able to call sentient life, and that's a lot more important to me. And I definitely want there to be sentient life somewhere out there, just so we're not alone in the dark, in our out of the way corner of the universe.

Yes and I guess there's no point in what I want because that won't change anything, but I hope we don't meet because we'd fuck it up. We always fuck it up.

There is, on average, around 100 billion stars in every galaxy, 100,000,000,000. (Averaged out.) There are approximately 100 billion stars in the known universe.

10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the known universe. Approximately.

Yes, I believe there's life beyond Earth!

(Hell, there could even be extraterrestrial life in this solar system. Come ooooon Europa!)

Yes, I do. Scientists have discovered traces of water on Mars, which means there may still be life there.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of sentient creatures. Sure, making contact might be awesome, but they could also be highly violent or just plain baffling. It'd revolutionise our theories about biology, for sure, but to communicate with sentient species might take centuries, or humans might contaminate and kill them, or might never be achievable. We're a short-lived species, after all - who knows if someone won't come along and discover us? (http://animorphs.wikia.com/wiki/Capasin)
