I used to love that trope, but now I don't
I used to have a huge thing for "strong, silent" or "dark, broody" male characters that had some hidden weakness. These days, they mostly annoy me - the former make me go "Oh ffs, just communicate already!" and the latter tends to make me root against any ship involving them. I can appreciate them if they're interesting in other ways, though, and/or if the story pokes fun at their lack of a sense of humor.
And I have way less patience for stories with realistic settings (i.e. set in this world, non-scifi, non-fantasy, etc.) dealing with supernatural stuff than I did back in my teens and earlier, when I was really fascinated with those things.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 03:15 am (UTC)(link)Maybe it's because they all seem to be a girl choosing between two guys, maybe it's because I found out they're not as much fun in real life, but I used to eat up anything that had a love triangle and now I'm just like "Stop worrying about who your prom date is and fight the aliens already!"
