Studying/travelling/networking fourteen hours a day (new commute is an hour and a half each way, but at least it's on the underground so I can watch tv/read/study on the go).

Enjoying it and fired up to prove myself, but I know burnout is going to set in eventually.

hey, enjoy the passion while it's there. Maybe you've found your burnout-free job :)

This is definitely possibly a job for life.

Just need to keep the serious studying up until Christmas/early Jan, because then they're choosing the candidates for the accelerated++ course. You would effectively go almost straight into leadership with focused development, and I would be surprised if the future top dog doesn't come from this group.

On the other hand, I'm not even sure I would take the opportunity if offered, because the standard accelerated scheme offers a lot of lateral movement (for the first two years you get cycled through the three main areas of the organisation, and than a guarantee of posting to any specialist team of your choice - and they'll give the support for promotion when you decide to move up.

But I know I'll always regret not at least taking the chance to prove myself and have the opportunity offered, who knows how I'll feel in eight months.

yeah, it's much better to do something and change your mind than not do it and wish you had. Go for it :)
