Er...I think some authors like to share their fics publicly because they know other people might appreciate the chance to read them, not because the authors themselves get anything out of sharing them. Especially in small fandoms.

I don't think that OP is necessarily getting/expecting anything out of posting their fics, just that there is a reason why they'd post them publicly. Wanting to share their fics and let other people enjoy them is a reason. And at that point, warning (in any form) is just part and parcel. Fanfic is part of the larger community of fandom, and in fandom it's nowadays custom to warn for triggering material, not just a courtesy anymore. Even if they only write for themselves, by posting fic the OP takes part in fandom and subscribes to the customs of the community.

That's why "I write for myself" is a really weak argument here. OP can write for themself for as long as they want, but as soon as they share it with fandom where warning is common these days they can't really complain about being expected to warn. Especially since the solution (CNTW) to their problem is also commonly accepted in fandom.
