Why do people like dub-con?
(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)Or conversely, if you really hate the kink, what makes you hate it so much?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)also,i think it somehow feels better than non-con.i mean,i get that,in an irl situation, all dub-con fics can/will pass as rape, but in fic,i can live under the pretense it's not.
i don't think this doesn't make any sense at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)1) All of my kinks tend to center around control and the idea of someone with super-tight self-control being forced into losing that control because it's the only way they can...so, if that makes sense, that's why dub-con appeals to me sometimes. The whole sense of being forcibly given something you can't take or ask for yourself. Or maybe even something you didn't know you wanted/needed.
2) I find the actual physical nerves-and-hormones reaction of sex really awesome, so situations that emphasize the purely physical nature of arousal and sex rather than any kind of romance or emotion--or even in opposition to them--yeah, that's hot.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 02:57 am (UTC)(link)Mostly I tend to like exploring when characters overcome uneven power dynamics.
But the thing I absolutely hate is when it's not labelled or warned for as dub-con, and just portrayed as "romantic" or some shit.
Re: Why do people like dub-con?
1) That old animalistic, primitive urge idea. All the stuff that totally doesn't fly in real life because it's actually kind of really fucking messed up, but which you kind of understand the idea of and you maybe sometimes kind of wish it worked more like it did in old un-PC movies, the way you wish people could jump through windows without gouging their arteries open. Stuff like the idea of UST/teasing ratcheting up to the point where one character just kind of snaps, initiating without express or implied consent but that doesn't go as far as ignoring persistent protests or obvious DNW, resisting at first but then liking it, really strong jealousy, anger, intimidation, punishment that overrides consideration. All stuff that doesn't work that way IRL, but acknowledging that it's dub-con makes those things easier to enjoy in fic.
2) With some characters, especially in fiction that's not terribly realistic, it's sometimes almost OOC to imagine certain characters sleeping with other certain characters in a perfectly reasonable adult fashion, and there's the whole idea of a character whom the reader knows really wants and needs and would benefit from and enjoy it being strong-armed into it by another character, if the first character is too blind or proud to admit they want it.
3) all the ol' speculative fiction stuff. Aliens made them do it, super-aphrodisiacs, fuck or die, identity porn, massive power differentials, etc.
4) Older teenager/legal adult, mainly in situations where the teenager's life makes them functionally adults in many ways.
