Crack ships that you don't think are all that cracky

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you ever had the experience of knowing a certain ship is seen by the fandom as total crack, but you personally don't think it's cracky or can think of a way to write it so that it isn't cracky?

Crack ships are dead. Every pairing you could possibly imagine has people genuinely shipping it these days (and I think that's great, this isn't sarcasm).

Personally, the only ships I really can't see are incest ships, but I know a ton of people do ship them in a non-cracky way, and in some fandoms they're the most popular ships.

This. I can think of a plausible plot for a fic with any ship which does or could exist. Any ship at all.

Does the Doctor/TARDIS count? :P It's not crack, but some conceptions of what the nature of the relationship is like are considered crack, whereas I don't consider any conception crack.

That's not crack, that's goddamn canon!

Rock Lee/Gaara from Naruto. That's a crack pairing if there ever was one and yet Maldaror-gw went and wrote a mind-blowing fic about them and pretty much made me a believer.

Rock Lee/Gaara from Naruto.

Really...? There's a lot of fic for it, and even some communities. I've written for it a bit, myself.

DA.

Well, to be fair, Rock Lee/anyone qualifies as crack to a lot of people, so...

Link/Groose in Skyward Sword. If Groose was traditionally bishonen, it'd be one of the biggest ships in fandom, dammit (former bully and rival is slowly reformed and becomes one of hero's most staunch allies, including helping to stop a potentially world-ending monster and saving the life of one of the other characters, people EAT THAT SHIT UP).

Bruce Banner/Nick Fury, from MCU. :)

The idea came up from someone I was talking to complaining about one of those "everyone's paired up" fics, and the only people left were Nick Fury and Bruce Banner. And then we went, "oh, that could actually work."

So it was born.

Time travelling Luna/Voldemort, mostly because it would be amazing!

I dunno. I've stopped seeing most things as crack, mostly because one of my favorite pass-times is finding cracky situations or pairings and making them legitmately feasible.

(I will put in the best cracky comedic set-up I've ever seen, though, which I first saw in a Fullmetal Alchemist fic but can be used with pretty much any cast: the rumor mill spins itself in a circle and absolutely everyone now knows that X and Y are sleeping together... except, of course, for X and Y.)
