It isn't even a fictional character, it is an abstract concept. A fictional abstract concept, that I'll grant though.

God is in a book, as a character. Regardless of the concept behind it, this is still true. This is the god that the saying "for the love of God" refers back to.

I repeat, do you not capitalize character names?

Actually, Jehovah is an English rendering of a pronunciation of the tetragrammaton (a deliberate mispronunciation, as I understand it). The Hebrew translation of 'God' is 'Elohim'. Elohim is used in Hebrew the same way God is in English - it's a title turned name, which came about due to speaking around the original name.
