21: I agree. As a former animé/manga elitist, I now can't stand most people who refuse to try American comics. Also, comics fans IRL are more welcoming and friendly than animé/manga fans.

21. I've tried American comics, and I just can't stay interested because the plot splits off into twenty different story arcs that all contradict each other. Excuse me for preferring a medium that wasn't written by a staff with severe ADD.

Because being an elitist asshole in a different fandom makes you totally welcoming and friendly!

Okay, but what are you reading? "American comics" spans a very large variety of publications, just as the term "manga" encompasses everything from Shuna's Journey to One Piece. I do understand the aversion to the mainstream Marvel/DC stuff (I love Marvel, but they're a headache), but titles like Courtney Crumrin and Ex Machina just don't fit that bill, just as, thank god, not all manga is Yu-Gi-Oh.

Because being completely insular and spending an entire discussion talking about how many volumes you own or how many subs you've seen is far less friendly than allowing people to jump into your conversation, referring them to similar titles, and having a nice chat about plot points. Though that may just be the area I live in.
