2 - ...oh god that's kinda hot. >_>

8 - Me neither, but... that OT3 tends to eat one's brain.

21 - American comics look really cool to me, but between how far back (and hard to find) a lot of the issues are, and the tendency they have to do a million AUs of themselves, I have no idea where I'd even start.
Especially because I'm one of those perfectionists who feels like she has to become familiar with the entirety of canon to actually be "worthy" of the fandom.

28 - .........except yaoi is a subset of slash, so to sum it up: WTF you talkin' bout Willis?

21: Agreed. That and most of them are superhero comics, and I'm really not big on those. No offence to those who are, they just don't appeal to me.

You should look into Slave Labor Graphics or Vertigo then. There are a lot of horror comics too. (Yes, I know you didn't ask for recs, but I look for any opportunity to pimp Nightmares and Fairy Tales.)

21. Start nowhere. Start now, really. It's a good idea to not jump in the middle of an arc, but the thing is comics continuity is so messed up there's no real good starting point. So just start collecting whenever, and read all the background you need to online.

When it comes to individual characters, wikipedia can be a great resource. But if you want to read older issues that might be hard to find or aren't collected in trades (or were and are now out of print--which drives me crazy) and don't mind DL'ing, many of the larger torrent sites will have fun runs/series available.

There are also some great new(er) series that don't have that many issues or completed series that have been collected in trade paperbacks. I can throw out some recommendations if you'd like.

21. Word. I tried getting into American comics, and that's the part that put me off. You know you're in trouble when you need an apocalyptic battle to kill off 3/4 of your universe because it's getting too confusing.
