Re: 16, 21 & 25

OP here for #16:

SEE THE MOVIE. DON'T BE SCARED.

(probably no spoilers below, but I talk a bit about the movie)

I actually kinda wasn't looking forward to the movie when I heard that it was going to be recaps of the series (it kinda is, but with new animation--some taken straight from original storyboards--and new plotlines/holes) when it came to the first two.

But seriously, please see the movie. I saw it, and I want to go see it practically every week. I don't care if it's 1000yen per.

Shinji's predicament will break your heart more. The movie totally changed my opinion of him (it only made me love him more), but that's because they added certain bits where you figure out that he really is doing this for his friends and to be liked by people--and that he was really being manipulated by a bunch of adults he wants to please. It's very sad.

I first saw the series when I was 12, and I was turned off by the ending. XD; But two years ago, I saw it again after nine years and realized "Oh my god. This is what this is about." And Shinji's character intrigued me. He is probably the only recorded anime character who regressed instead of progressed. He's realistic. That's why it hurts SO MUCH when I see him like this, cuz we can all identify with him on some scale.

tl;dr here, too ^^;;; But I'm just passionate about Shinji.

Not tl;dr for me at all ♥ I like your passion about him as a character, I totally understand the feeling. It's been a real exprience rewatching Eva and being completely blown away almost ten years later still. It's a wonderful feeling to have watched it as a child before and as an adult now and still feel for the children characters.

Believe me, I want to see this movie so bad and I've wanted to since I heard about it fear and all... I'm just not sure when I'm going to be able to unless things go insanely well and things fall into place in such a way I'll get to visit a friend in Japan soon but regardless... I'm really looking forward to seeing it, whenever that may be.

Randomly, thank you ♥ I love rambling about eva to people, espeically people who don't dismiss Shinji as a whiney little brat for no reason. He's a great character and it's a wonderful brain-fuck of a show. I have utter love.

EVA really does just keep on trucking. I was blown away two years ago when I watched the series again (and then the movies for the first time, oh god). When I first watched it, I felt more compassion towards Asuka, but the second time, I realized more about Rei and Shinji as well. The children are just so complex, each and every one of them--that you can't help but want to just hold their hands.

I really hope you'll be able to see it, it's definitely worth every penny you put into it. And when you do, please tell me!

People who put Shinji down for no good reason other than seeing him on the surface as a whiny child annoy me. He does whine quite a bit (but mostly at the beginning of the series, as far as I remember), but it's like I said--it's understandable and he's just a normal kid. If I were a normal kid and someone told me to go and sit in a robot and risk certain painful death (and mind-rape), I'd be all "uh, dude, no."

The show was a total brain-fuck, indeed. The movie moreso O_O I just felt so bad about Shinji...and then I wrote a whole essay about EVA for my final for my gender studies course.
