Could be considered spoiler-y, so I'm putting it in a reply post.

Citing an earlier quote from Steven Moffat: “It is important you don’t turn it into a fanfest. We can’t make this all about looking backwards. It’s actually got to be the start of a new story.”

Well, that sucks like a Hoover. It made the "special" less than special. Like having a Star Trek Anniversary Special and bringing back none of the original actors from Star Trek:TOS and instead bring the actors from the Abrams movies to filling for Kirk and the others.

Boo.

Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarming.

So much for Moffat being an uber-fan. Looks like he lied about that, as much as he lied about being a Sherlockian (more like a Rathbonian, unfortunately). At least I won't feel even remotely compelled to watch it.

Dude, that sucks. THAT SUCKS. Can I just say how much that sucks?

"The Five Doctors" had an excellent plot. Just sayin'.

And "The Three Doctors" introduced us to an important character in Gallifreyan/Time Lord history. I'm not sure where akacat is getting the idea that having more than two Doctors means there wouldn't be a plot.

Right? IT'S FIFTY YEARS OLD and they're not doing a retrospective? FIVE-year-old TV shows do retrospectives these days.

Bummer. So far, only 10 is confirmed. Feels a little lackluster for a 50th anniversary, as much as I love 10, I wish more doctors and actors/actresses from the show would come back...

.... but WHY is it important not to turn it into a fanfest? That's kind of what we assumed this special would be. It's an Anniversary special of THE big 50 year mark. Why not throw in some classic Doctors.

Oh FFS, Moffat.

Curiously, though, we're getting a ton of references in the season itself. Rings of Akhaten had a monster referred to as Grandfather and a direct mention of Susan, Cold War had Ice Warriors and HADS, Hide had the seventies, secret service-y UNIT-esque stuff, and a blue crystal from Metebelis 3, and JTTCOTT (holy fuck, what an acronym) had a ton of Gallifrey mythology stuff, like the Eye of Harmony, which also got played up a lot in the Fourth Doctor era.

There's three episodes left. Three classic TV Doctors left. We already know that we're getting Ten in the anniversary special - but please, please, PLEASE let there be at least REFERENCES to Eight and Nine.

The show is FIFTY YEARS OLD. How many shows GET that far? Come on, Moffat!

Nothing I didn't expect, but still very disappointing.

I would murder someone to have Nine, Ten, and Eleven in one episode.

Three, Four, and Seven, and I'm on board. Four and Romana II would be ideal, but yeeeeeeeah that ain't happening.

They totally need to kick Moffat to the curb and do a clips show of The Two Doctors, The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors, and Curse of the Fatal Death, then it really would be a Golden Anniversary!

Heh. You realise that Curse of the Fatal Death was written by Moffat, right?
