(Anonymous) 2013-05-02 01:15 am (UTC)(link)Actually, the fandom I was in for years had as its main pairing two 35 to 40 characters.
The one I am in right now has as its 3rd most popular (slash) pairing two 50+ characters (the oldest between 60 and 70), so really, I'd say go for it... Considering how shallow most of us are, this will not be a very popular pairing, but it may be more due to the lack of obvious physical attractiveness of the characters in question than their age and/or gender status. Mind you, you can circumvent this problem quite neatly by going for a friendship/platonic or asexual relationship thing instead?
Note: I think your problem may be a much more common one - your favorite pairing is not the fandom's favorite/it's a rare pairing/it doesn't exist at all... The problem is not necessarily a matter of age as the general online fandom population is growing older (50+ fan right here and I know of several fans who are even older by an order of magnitude).
PS: no offense, but at 24, you are likely to strike at least half of the fans reading this as a baby. Thus the response from the anon above, I suspect. It's not about chronological age as much as it is about maturity... :(
