Inspired by fifteen!

I'm curious about how you guys feel about characters being used after a creator's death. You feel like that they're not the same characters because there's a different person behind them? Should the company just stop doing things with the character? What about someone who's knowledgeable about the character? Or is it just when the characters are used differently than what the creator wanted? Do you feel any differently about this than you do fanwork?

All I can say is that it really, really, really depends on a lot of circumstances.

It depends so much on circumstances.

In general, though: I accept it on the conditions that either (a) it is financially benefiting the creator's loved ones in a way that is significant for their lives and / or (b) it comes from a place of love - it is being made by someone who obviously knows and cares about the characters, for the right reasons, in tune with who the character is. And I guess the other factor is, how serial is the original work, how well-suited is it for new interpretations and episodic installments.

But shit like the Peanuts commercials... fucking sucks.
