Angst fic

There´s this WIP fanfic I´m reading. It´s tagged as fluff and angst. So I thought, well, I´ll read it because it will have a happy ending. But it´s been pages and pages of angst and I´m getting tired of it. I kinda want to ask the writer when the fluff will start, but it doesn´t seem polite.

I don't know how you get fluff & angst into the same story - they're kind of at the opposite ends of the spectrum, aren't they? Won't they cancel each other out? Perhaps it fits under "I don't think that word means what you think it means."

You don't know. How you get fluff. And angst. In the same story. Really. You don't know. Really? How about, I dunno, how about check out about five hundred movies, books, and TV seasons? The ones that have fluffy sections, that are then pushed aside by angsty sections, that eventually get resolved into fluffy sections again?

I'm sorry, the stupidity of this comment is actually boggling my mind. How can you be a literate human living on planet earth and not understand how a story can have both fluff and angst? Have you never read or watched a fictional story in your entire life or something?

Off the top of my head, h/c is pretty much inherently both...

Agreed. I mean, an angsty story can certainly have fluffy *scenes* (or vice versa) but to categorize a fic as being BOTH *genres* is a little odd.

An angst/fluff combo is my favorite kind of story. It's a tough balance to write though and usually authors will go too far on one or the other, like OP is experiencing.

I'm actually surprised you have to ask. Isn't it pretty normal for people to be all "This fic is awful, why am I reading it? Ooh! An update! This fic is awful, why.." etc repeat etc.

I can see that with fic bad enough that it's kind of entertaining, but this doesn't sound like it.

The plot interests me, it´s about my favorite couple adopting a baby. So everything was peachy and cute in the beginning and then... the birth mother decided she wanted her baby back, so angst angst and more angst.

The first chapters were fluffy, now there´s a lot of angst. I suppose they either get the baby back or get another baby from someone else, and that´s when the fluff starts again and maybe happy ending.

The fic is well written, and I liked the fluff, so I´m kinda waiting for the rest of it...
