I'm more annoyed at magenta showing up in a spectrum. Magenta's just your brain playing tricks on you.

I'm still looking for my Hutch, too.

I'm starting to think, despite my oddball quirks, I am Hutch.

Aren't colors like orange, green, purple not really relevant either? I mean, the way we perceive color is not the way every species perceives color. There are some colors we can't see. I've heard it said pink is a color that only humans can see.

As far as I know, the visible spectrum of color is the visible spectrum as seen by the human eye.

And as a final note, isn't the Indigo Tribe kind of weird? Not like the other Lanterns? If so, that makes sense and should work with your pet peeve.

Indigo lanterns are basically all brainwashed after being picked out from the worst of the worst. The kind of sociopaths that end up serial killers. Ring literally forces compassion into them.

So where the other rings look for people who embody their principle emotion well, Indigo rings look for it's absence.

Once your aware of that, you realize none of them really look like good people. And there projected images...

I see...that's neat. I don't read Green Lantern, but I remembered there being something bizarre about them. So, OP, Indigo isn't a color like other colors and Indigos aren't Lanterns like other Lanterns.

There's a million little subtle things like that if you overthink GL enough. :D

I blame Alan Moore.

...........I now feel extremely disturbed by getting Indigo as my color on every Which Lantern Are You? internet quiz I've ever taken (never read the comics; a friend who does just kept throwing them at me whenever I was bored).

Depends on when the quiz was made. This revelation, while set up form the beginning, came notably later then the introduction of the Indigo lanterns.

Indigo lanterns are basically all brainwashed

Not so much brainwashed as lobotomized and controlled. (So long as the Indigo energy is channelled through them...when the lantern was broken, they all woke up, and it was very unpleasant.) The Red Lanterns are similar, but for at least some of the Corps (Atrocitus, Bleez, Rankor, Dex Starr (probably), and a bunch of others), their natural personalities have been allowed to mix with the Rage...because the book wouldn't be very interesting if everybody but Atrocitus was just mindless rage.

It's the Star Sapphires who are simply brainwashed.

Fair point on Indigo, but disagree on Red. They have a key difference: the rings seek those out who have rage.

And then cut off everything except the rage. Even the temporary ring-holders, like Guy and Mera, who got to keep their minds to an extent, were barely more than bundles of spitting rage.

Hey they got the rings was different, but what the rings did to them afterward was not dissimilar.

In fact, he didn't know about Uranus either. The seven "planets" of astrology were Mercury through to Saturn (not counting Earth, because it's based on what you can see in the sky) plus the Sun and Moon.

Chinese rainbows have seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, green-blue, blue, purple. /shrug

It's possible that Newton was thinking along similar lines. Indigo dye had been used as a colour reference in English long before Newton came along, and it's more blue than the blue-purple we think of when considering "indigo" in the context of the rainbow: Newton's indigo might have been closer to what we'd think of as "blue", making his blue more of a blue-green.

Your parents probably love you unconditionally. And Jesus, if you believe in that. The rest of the world expects you to put some effort into being a decent person. How's about wanting to be the sort of person that could be loved for their good qualities: kindness, compassion, sense of humor, loyalty, honesty, punctuality... cooking skills... ability to list all the elements in the periodic table... whatever.

I dunno, I used to think that, and then I started looking at actual rainbows made by prisms. They're not actually six colors separated into neat bands of equal width: purple and blue take up nearly half the thing! I can see how you'd come up with indigo to balance that out. Anyway, the whole idea of discrete colors is sort of something humanity came up with and assumed was reality.

I get more annoyed that there's no UV or IR Lantern, but then, all the aliens in the DCU are sort of hilariously human. I do sometimes wonder what Rot Lop Fan makes of all these different colors, though.

Um, sorry, but that's stupid. You kinda sound like those college freshman girls who go to one women's studies class and come out with their mind blown thinking that they've had their eyes opened and are one of a handful of intelligent humans living among 7 billion brainwashed sheeple.
