Don't use your real photobucket! It's not much of a secret if you do that!

That said, this has a really cool composition! :D!

(Also, I have no idea what this secret is about.)

Actually double checked, looks like everything's private! Way to go!

Short version:

Tessa had a webcomic, "Hanna is not a boys name". About a less then competant supernatural detective and his Zombie straight man. Personally I thought it was all style no substance (character were interesting but there were entirely too many to actually focus on them in the right way), but it defintely had a fandom.

Anyway, artist up and dissapeared. No goodbye, no summary of the story, no hiatus, no nothing.

"But Noodly," one might say, "It's not like you were paying for it. It was free service! They want to stop that, It's their right." If that was all of it, I'd agree!

But she'd accepted a good amount of money for a book SHE NEVER FINISHED. not donations or a kickstarter, pre-orders through a publishing company. A bunch of her stans started harassing the publishing company thinking they had something to do with it rather then blame their special snowflake "oh noes mah anxiety" flake of an author, even though they were totally bro tier about it and gave everybody refunds FROM THEIR MONEY. Dunno what the legal arrangements ended up being between them but the fact is she hung both fans and partners out to dry without so much as a fucking apology.

Her further flaky failure was expected by many. And lookit it go!

ADDING

(Anonymous) 2013-05-03 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Tessa had a few failed comics before Hanna, all of them she got bored of and bailed on. She also begged for pre-orders, saying they would have special doodles and whatnot from her on them. She didn't do many of them, so the company had to refund everyone who pre-ordered (She never finished the product)

As for the comic...No. It was just a bunch of pretty boys who the fan(girls) were able to go slash happy with. There really wasn't any plot to speak of. The stories jumped around randomly with no real structure, just two fistfuls of male characters thrown at the audience.

Pretty boys but, as said, all style no substance. It's obvious she just made all these characters she wanted to throw in and the paper thin story was just to get us to them.

But as we've said, the real sin was taking all those pre-orders and not delivering.

It is unfortunate. While I could never get interested in the lack of story, this is one of the few circumstances that I would say the "style over substance" actually worked because it did style exceptionally well. I still look back to it just to see how she works the panels, and the fonts.

The whole saga is rather sad. I'm glad she's still alive.

The comic was/is a wonderful gift to fanfic writers, though. Interesting characters, but tons of room left for fleshing them out. The 'Hannapocalypse' (or however it's written) is a post-apocalyptic AU shared by several authors, and is probably the best series of fanfics that I've ever read.
