Why wouldn't you think of movies from other anglophone countries as foreign? English speaking countries have values, points of view and stories to tell that can be markedly different from one another. That's not even accounting for the difference in filmmaking styles and genre trends.

I don't mean that I consider them the same as American. But my brain naturally doesn't group them in the same memory bank as movies in foreign languages, so when I think back over "foreign movies" my mind doesn't recall them the same way it brings up a list of the French movies I've seen. It seemed more fair to me to specify that I wasn't including English language films in the running, to give a better sense of the competition my choices went up against in my head.

That makes sense.
