why is this a secret?

Probably because it's meant to be a signal boost and didn't think of just talking about it in the GC area.

On the other hand, their strategy may have because now I'm interested whereas before I'd only heard the name of the show once or twice and nothing else about it.

I've seen ads that it's going to be imported - and considering that the last shows I got into that way were Lost Girl and Continuum, I'm interested. Off to read the rest of the comments to see if that's a good idea...

TV police, duh

I'm really enjoying Orphan Black too! It's got a real slow build that I might get sick of eventually, but at the moment it's just interesting learning about all these people, and the writing and Tatiana have done such an amzing job differentiating all of them.

It's just such a different show from DW though, so I wouldn't really compare them.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

Possible only because someone might actually not have caught that very first spoilerific trailer

Tatiana have done such an amzing job differentiating all of them

This! Holy crap, she's an amazing actress. Every now and then, I catch myself suddenly remembering "oh yeah, these characters AREN'T all played by different people who just happen to look alike". And the camerawork when she's on the screen more than once, whether she's greenscreened in or the other "her" is just a body double while the viewer's still focused on the real "her", is almost flawless.

Yeah I gotta agree, I saw the preview/promo they ran on Innerspace and pretty much everyone said "Girlfriend busts her backside off to do the job." Which, yeppers. It's on at a really good time here (DW as the lead-in), so that's prolly why OP says it's superior. Which, given how much Nu!Who sucks, *anything* is superior...but Orphan Black really is, really good.

Can someone tell what these two shows have to do with each other? 'Cause all I'm seeing is "I like this one random show I watch more than another random show I watch." Which isn't a secret afaik.

They're treated basically as a pair by BBC America. They air back to back and then they have the Nerdist on afterwards shouting talking about both shows.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-05 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Space Channel in Canada has the same lineup; Orphan Black is a Canadian co-production AFAIK.

SciFi Saturday on BBC America

Nice trolling, go suck on a car exhaust.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-05 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, apparently this IS a secret!

I still don't understand WHY it's a secret, but nevertheless.

Honestly, Doctor Who has been one of my favourite things since 1996 and I'm enjoying series seven very much, but there are plenty of shows currently on that I think are better - that doesn't diminish the special place Doctor Who has in my heart. You don't need to feel guilty for this at all.

And yes, Orphan Black is brilliant and compelling as hell.

I like both, but Orphan Black is quickly becoming my fav new show of 2013.

It's gritty, has mystery, the cast is enjoyable, and Tatiana is one hell of an actress. I'm so happy it has been renewed for a second season ♥

Doctor Who was my favourite show for years, but in my eyes it's been knocked off its pedistal both by the awesomeness of Game of Thrones and the suckiness of Moffat's run...

(Anonymous) 2013-05-06 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard nothing but good things about it. Makes me wish I could stomach gore. :/

Right now, I'm definitely more into Orphan Black than Who, though I'm enjoying both. But if I miss viewing them when they air, I usually want to watch my recording of Orphan Black first.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I tried watching that. Couldn't find a single character in it that was remotely likeable; first ten minutes I was wishing even the protagonist had been the one to bite it on the tracks.
