Yeah, I did the same thing. My best friend and I can enjoy some of the same things but we found that when we have different interests it's easier to just say "I appreciate that you like it." I will buy him Doctor Who merch and he listens to me when I babble about homestuck. What I told him at the time was "I know it can feel bad when someone doesn't like something that you love, but it's not a rejection of you personally. It's just not for me." So, we're cool.
