i happen to like both sad/gritty endings and happy ones. i feel like the former are more believable in terms of reality, and they aren't very common in mainstream media. but - as a writer - it's hard for me to do that to my characters?? idk. i think whether or not a gritty ending is "superior" depends entirely on what works for the story itself.
