+1 on pretty much all of this, but also the secret's preference of graphics for a game remake. AC Cloud looks good--but I do kind of like the style of KH Cloud (if not his wardrobe choices) and I saw once a video someone had done of Cosmo Canyon remade in better graphics but retaining a cartoony look rather than going for realism. It was awesome. I really think retaining a little bit of cartoon suits VII better than pushing for incredible realism.

(But, I don't really think there's going to be a remake, either. Sooo this kind of discussion is really only for the "what if".)

I agree with that, too. The "realism" look is hit or miss. Since I played the original game almost when it first came out *puffs out chest* I had my own image of how the characters looked, which was basically the anime design of the original graphics. Kingdom Hearts did a pretty good job, though poor Aeris has kind of a strange face in both - Cloud looked amazing, though.

I see so many problems with a remake - basically, I think SE is incapable of the wit, humor, and genuine emotion that Squaresoft rocked, and I'd hate to see them change the original game to accommodate the spinoffs - but even the graphics change would feel a bit sad. I wouldn't mind seeing KH style graphics, though, being a little more realistic than blocks, but still with that fantasy, anime look.

Honestly I don't know if it's that SE is incapable, or just that a lot of what I like about VII was a happy accident/serendipity in how everything eventually came together. The game does have its flaws, too. But yeah, I feel like at this point there's a good chance the remake would be one I end up not liking, even if the graphic update I'd appreciate (I'm a little bit shallow).
