BoB secret! I feel you, OP, because I first saw this show in 2011, ten years after it first aired. The weird thing for me is that as much as I love all of the characters, I can't read any fic for it because of all the RPS overtones. That said, I do agree that at least in the context of the show, those two are perfect for each other, despite being a teetotaler and a drunk (or because of it?).

Totally one of my OTPs. I was more active in the Liebgott/Webster side of the fandom, but Lew and Winters are simply amazing.

Yeah...that was totally my thoughts the entire way through.

And then I thought "Self, this is based on real people who would probably be horrified by you thinking dirty thoughts about them." And then I thought, "Man, I love it when I remember my give a shit is permanently kaput. It's not like they'll ever know or this will _ever_ be de-anon'd." To this day it's pretty much the closest to RPF that I'll ever get. And it's a movie based on real people. Eh.

...Honestly I'm kind of more horrified at this point that it's ten years old. Make me feel old myself, why don't you...though still not as old as the 20th anniversary re-release of Jurassic Park.

holy shit though, it is nigh impossible not to ship them. Even people who don't actively ship it (like for instance my dad) are aware of the OTPishness there (while I was showing him that show and he couldn't remember their names, he called them "war husbands"). No one will judge you for this.

It's kind of impossible not to ship Winters/Nixon. They are the ultimate OTP. And yeah, there are RPFish connotations, but really, no more so than in any other piece of media based on real events -- it's still fiction, not a documentary.

LJ's crack_van has a decent amount of Winters/Nixon fic under its BOB tag, if you're looking.

My first ever official OTP, their chemistry made me got over my aversion to RPF/RPS, and... I don't think I've found anything that can be compared to them in the last ten years.
