outlook.com vs yahoo vs gmail vs ??????

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
which one to pick?

i mean gmail tracking what i search is creepy and important messages going to spam sounds unfun, but otherwise it is very attractive

but outlook.com has access to skydrive so you can send huge files but i am very disappointed in microsoft on a variety of levels

also isn't yahoo owned by google or do i have that wrong and anyway wow it is not very secure at all is it

and lycos now charges you money on most countries for some reason even if you had an account from back when it was free :(

and mail.com is owned by what appears to be a very jerkassy company

and all the other ones are kinda overshadowed so i don't know any suggestions??

I think you can get around gmail tracking if you log out after checking your mail.

I don't think that's true, but it doesn't really matter. People use Google's search engine for so many minor things that any of their "search recommendations" and "personalized ads" wind up being a clusterfuck of weird combinations. It's really funny, and unless you're, like, Googling child porn, it's hard to condemn yourself. :)

I love my gmail, mostly because yahoo as a site and an email option is a fucking horror.

I have *nothing* 'linked' to my gmail except the things i've chosen. I dunno if they 'track' me or not, but i barely notice ads unless they move or flash, so who knows. I don't really care, though - i have more than one gmail account and if i log out and use my other browser, i'm 'invisible' again, so....

Also, i have had almost *no* emails of import go into my spam. You tell gmail what is spam and what is not, and it's nearly 100 percent accurate in sorting them.

I dunno anything about outlook.

Dude, no one gives a flying fuck about gmail tracking. It just kinda results in a clusterfuck of conflicting results unless you only use google to look for a couple of specific types of things. Google doesn't give a rat's ass about 99% of your info.

Really, gmail is the best. And things stay in the spam folder for a long time, so just...periodically check it, I guess.

I've never had important messages end up in spam, but even if they do it's an easy enough thing to check it and empty it regularly.

Out of the above options, gmail all the way.

Gmail.

It tends to work the best. All of those other clients (especially yahoo) have a big problem with bouncing mails at time. Honestly, I don't understand your concern about important messages going to spam cause... it is something that has happened at times with all of the different email clients I have used. Gmail isn't weirdly stand out in that. personally I don't care so much about the tracking. I basically assume the whole internet tracks me to some degree anyway.

gmail, for sure

I never had important things end up in spam, and who cares about the tracking? it's not like gmail hires a tiny midget whose life mission is to track what you search

...i thought you could turn gmail tracking off? no?

anyway, i'd still go with gmail, but just sign out after you're done checking your mail as imo it still offers the best and often most secure service in my experience

outlook isn't so bad, and i think it's gotten a lot better now that it's cut out a lot of the bloat, but yeah microsoft

yahoo is the piece of shit i use because i've had an account there for nearly a decade, and it's really just bloated, insecure, and awful - and i end up with more spam there than anywhere else

I've had my Outlook account since high school back in 2003 when Hotmail was still big. It's pretty nice but I also have my spam filter on high and if you're on a mailing list and don't put the e-mail for it in the safe senders list, it'll go straight to junk, no matter how many times you mark it not junk. Plus you can change the color scheme.
