Health help?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I could use your guys' views on something going on in my life, if you wouldn't mind?

I'm trying to figure out where I am in terms of overall health, and while I'm okay right now, I don't have a proper perspective on my own health to know if I should be on alert for future health problems.

So in the past six months, I've had two sinus infections, one bout of the flu, a few head colds, an episode of fainting that ended up in a seizure, and currently I'm battling a fungal infection that has spread over my right arm. (This may be incidental, but during one of these illnesses I lost maybe 6% of my overall weight in a month.)

Is this pretty typical in terms of health? Or should I be looking out for more crap? Talking to doctors?

I'd say it's uncommon, but might be circumstances. Keep an eye out if things get worse and mention it the next time you see a doctor.

That does not seem typical to me.

I'd need a little more info to go into any depth, but I'd consider whether or not you have any kind of immune defiancy. They can be caused by all sorts of things, some of which are serious, and these little boughts of sickness could actually be warnings for something more serious. If you have insurance, I would find a doctor you trust and have them run a full fasting glucose test to see if you're deficient in anything, check your hormone levels, ect, and then possibly look into other means of preventative wellness- vitamins, meditation, theraputic massage, immune boosting foods and supliments.

And always remember it's important to have a full physical everyone once in a while, because our bodies change over time, and an issue that you never had as a teenager/kid can manifest during adulthood or late adulthood, ect. Things that were once issues can also go away, so, definitely get in there and have a physical of some kind to check for obvious signs of illness.

And in the meantime, start drinking some Emergen-C's. You can find them in your local market, and they are a good source of overall vitamins until you find out what you really need.

OP here

Thanks for responding. I had my thyroid and blood checked during September, and the doctor who was looking at the labs said they didn't look abnormal. But she wasn't a good doctor, and I've had all of these problems since then, so I'm taking that with a grain of salt.

Again, thanks for the perspective and the advice, I appreciate it. I'll keep this in mind for the future, and if I get worse I'll try to get to a doctor.

no, that sounds like bad health

like, not terrible, but definitely not healthy

like someone said, could be nutritional deficiencies, but you might want to see a doctor if its within your means to do so

No, it isn't typical to be sick that often. Sounds like your immune system isn't working that well, and it might be a good idea to check, for example, if your white blood cell count is OK or if you have some chronic inflammation that is contributing to these illnesses.

OP here. Thanks for the perspective, I'll keep it in mind. I'm not entirely sure what counts as chronic inflammation, but I have a biological aunt with rheumatoid arthritis, so it may be a family thing.

Something like bronchitis (mold can cause this or other respiratory tract infections)

Looking at those symptoms, also make sure you're not living or working in a moldy building.

OP here. Oh I definitely am, but it's outside my power to move away from them or clean/renovate them. Is mold that dangerous?

I'll definitely keep the idea of mold in mind if I get any worse, but really my poor health has just been bothering me within the past six months. One of my regular homes is my childhood home, which I rarely get sick in, and the other I really don't have a choice but to live in. I am too poor to get another place to live or to hire someone to kill it professionally.

It's unlikely the apartment is the cause of my health problems-- I'm the only one who lives here who gets sick so often.

maybe take pictures of the mold and search for a forum or someplace to ask someone to help you identify it and see if you can combat it yourself somehow (unlikely, but eh...)

in the meantime, save money for a professional or a new home!

"It's unlikely the apartment is the cause of my health problems-- I'm the only one who lives here who gets sick so often."

that... doesn't really mean much of anything, that it's only you. it doesn't make the mold any less hazardous!

don't wait until your health gets worse, this shit can kill you :(
