Yeah, I'm pretty sure BBC America doesn't actually give a shit about whether or not anything is British, except to the extremely tenuous extent that it's part of their brand image.

I think once upon a time it did care. It started as a niche network as part of the BBC overseas franchise. Then it realized it was bleeding money because the ratings weren't up to par. Apparently, Americans only like certain British shows and could not give a large enough flip about whether or not someone from Leeds finds an antique in their attic to auction off in order to pay for their holiday to the seaside. So, they switch to shows that would give it the ratings to allow them to air shows like Doctor Who and create new shows like Ripper Street.

In short, BBCAmerica started off as a nice enough dream but Reality is a cruel mistress with a mean right hook.
