LOTR fic, by any chance?

I've got a half-finished fic I started 10 years ago that's recently gotten attention because of the Hobbit. There are new reviews and followers all of a sudden, and I've really no idea what to do. I mean, I could finish it, but much like you said, I've grown a lot as a writer in the past decade, and I just don't know how to get back into the groove.

Different fandom for me, but I can't get back into the groove after only 5 years. I can't imagine ten. I think my problem is that the storyline was horrible and now that I've been through some of the things the story was actually about, I could write it better. I'm considering rewriting it but that is sooo much work and... Well. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Yeah, exactly. I really do hate myself a little for leaving the fic unfinished, so I *want* to wrap it up, but I'm so far gone from the pairing that some of the things I referenced in the fic are beyond me at this point.

I have notes and everything, so I could definitely finish it with the plot I intended (which, imho, is still pretty okay), but ugh. I'm like you - I'd want to rewrite the whole thing so the style matches, and that's too much like work. Also, the current OTP has given me massive word vomit, and I've been grooving on them.

People actually follow something that old? I usually assume that a fic has been abandoned for good, if it hasn't updated for six months. Anyway, good for you, keep on writing. I don't think that the readers will expect improved quality, since they have been happy with it so far.

I have a years-long fic, too. I want to update it but my problem is I'm just not so much in touch with the characters anymore, and then I get uncertain and scared I'll mess up because I think it's pretty decent so far...*sigh*

If I understand your secret, you want to finish it so that you can also revise the beginning part (since you're a better writer now)? If that's the case, i think it shows pride in your craft.)

P.S. Unless you change major plot details int eh old stuff, I'll bet readers won't even notice the remodeling. They're be all, " Oh, this is even better than I remembered!" :p

I'm pretty sure they said they don't want to improve their fic and that they only want to update it because it's no effort on their part and their readers will love it even if it's crap.

Eh, as long as it's good, it doesn't matter if you did it easily. It's always good not to leave a story unfinished.

This just makes me wish the author of my favorite long-abandoned WiP would update her story. Which actually happened a year ago, after something like a 9-year break, so I just can't give up hope, even if she's otherwise completely inactive in fandom.

I finished my ten year old WIP a few months ago. I didn't received any reviews for it, I don't blame people for not remembering my story anymore, but you know, it felt so good to get that weight out of my back, it felt like a liberation. I can focus my creative energy on new projects now!

So, do it!

I'm working on a re-write a fic I started 11 years ago. My fandom is much smaller than it once was and nobody remembers the original version from '02, but it'll feel good to get that weight off my shoulders.

Do it, OP. If only to assuage your own guilt at leaving it unfinished.

UGH ENOUGH WITH THE "I'M A BAD PERSON FOR WANTING COMMENTS ON MY FIC" THING. Even many professionals love getting fanmail and reading reviews of their work. Sheesh.
