People don't always keep track of who ships what unless they're vocal about it or involved in some kind of ship war, so it's not as likely as you think that someone would recognize them for that.

People who never speak of their forbidden love can ask about it anonymously without getting caught. It may be too late (far too late for NOW, anyway), but you'll know that next time when you ship something unusual to keep it under wraps.

This answer could be applied to almost all secrets. Every day.
Don't suck out the fun.

you first.

YANA. It's especially tough in small fandoms where people really do keep track of who ships what. It's almost impossible for most fans not to.

I've requested things on kinkmemes that I've never told anyone in namespace about, ever. They're anonymous memes for a reason. Even if you kept track of every pairing I've talked about shipping publicly, you wouldn't have a chance of knowing what I might prompt (or fill) on an anon meme.

Yep, I know this feeling, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain. There have been 25 authors in my fandom over 10 years and I'm the only one to write a particular ship. There's no way people wouldn't know it was meme if I made a request for that pairing on the kink meme. And I'd probably be stuck writing the fill, too. It makes so much more sense for me to just write what I want without making an ass of myself on the kinkmeme.

What?

I'm sorry but you're being a little stupid. Most of the time people aren't going to remember what you ship. If an anon comes along asking for a rarepair I'm not going to assume it's that one person who ships it, if I even happen to remember who ships what. (That's being generous. I won't remember because I don't care.)

You are really overanalyzing this.

Besides, just for arguments sake, if someone wants to go anon for something, even if it's obvious it's them, why do you care? It's not you.

You confuse me. I am confused.

Yes, this. And excellent gif useage.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-08 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're complaining that people request something anonymously on.... an anon meme?

I get that it might be easy (if people cared enough to keep track of who ships what) ton figure out who's posting, but as opposed to what? Some anon memes are strict about the 'anon' part, and if they want to request a pair and don't really care about being found out.... So what?

To me, it's more the the case "Do you WANT FIC OR NOT!?" than "How did you find out about me!?", so I can't say I share the same problem as yours, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
So HAVE you ever identified someone by what they ship? Because I don't think people usually remember rare-pair shipping unless they know the person personally or the shipper is very vocal.

And even if you have... what of it? What's so shameful about people knowing someone asked for fic... in a fic-request space??

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oy, I can relate.
I doubt anyone would care, but I'm paranoid about getting found out. Especially when it includes a kink I don't want others to know I have.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Most people don't pay attention to everything that every person ships.

Even if you are a big enough name in your fandom that people would recognize you instantly, they may assume others ship it as well, and are just less well-known or vocal.

If you're that worried about it, slightly alter your diction.
