Fuckin this. And then when other countries stop portraying Americans as 500 lb inbred hicks with guns, maybe then we'll consider how we portray foreigners in our media.

This is bizarre. That does not actually happen.

I've never seen this but I hear it all the time in British shows. They say that all Americans are like that but then they have an American on (either a Brit using an American accent or an American) and they're never like the stereotype that the show said they were like.

You were watching Top Gear weren't you?

Jeremy Clarkson, the UK's own crime against humanity.

Tell me about this thing called a 3D Printed Gun and the nationality of the person who developed it?

Basically if you stop being those, we'll stop portraying you as such.

Coming up with a 3D printed gun is hardly characteristic of inbred hicks.

And when I complain about the U.S.'s love affair with guns, I don't talk about people coming up with weird techie new guns, I talk about people in power refusing to control the guns we already have. I have a lot of problems with the U.S. and guns, but 3D printed guns aren't high among them.

ayrt

Yeah, that would be another one of the problems I have with the U.S. and guns, WTF are people even thinking.

That just sounds like a tech nerd, although I don't know the story.

Anyway the vast, vast (like over 90%) of Americans support gun control laws, so please. Corporate ties to congress are what's denying us that, not the will of the people of the country. You are really only showing your ignorance.

Media producers in other countries portraying Americans inaccurately does not actually obligate American media producers to portray non-Americans inaccurately, any more than stereotypes in American media obligate media in other countries to portray stereotyped Americans.

We (global "we") can all sit around whining about "you hurt my feelings FIRST!" or we can put in a little effort to be less stupid.

...My mistake. Of course we can't do that.

You portray YOURSELVES as fat inbred hicks with guns.

Before The Simpsons little me had no clue about the "hillbilly" trope. My country usually makes fun of you by showing how rich, arrogant Americans try to be heroic and right about everything and shove their noses everywhere just to pad themselves on the ass afterwards.

Not more flattering, but more accurate than the banjo playing hick.

No? We portray SOME characters that way as a form of mockery. But uh, last time I checked most tv shows and movies in the US that are about US citizens were not about inbred hicks.

the most "stupid hicky guys with guns who can't handle them" show has got to be Trailer Park Boys, and those guys are all Canadians! (it's a work of genius too BTW)
