I'm thinking about it, thanks to your Secret (esp the follow-up, about it getting "gayer"). What's it about?

Steampunk victorian england with vampires and werewolves and ghosts and the main character has no soul (a 'preternatural') which negates the powers of the supernatural, and it's hilarious and just a lot of fun.

Don't feel bad. One time we had an older lady walk into our library and ask us where the e-books were.

I don't use e-books, but I'm glad we're starting to offer that.

Yeah, it's great. There are some books I don't think work too well with the ebook format--The Guardians books by William Joyce have a lot of artwork that doesn't look as nice on a screen as in a book--but for most things, it's nice to just have one thing to haul around.

:\ my state has an inter-library thing, and not all the books are offered on it for some reason. which sucks because the 3rd book? the one I'm reading? I PUT IT DOWN SOMEWHERE AND NOW I CAN'T FIND IT.

It's okay, I managed to get a kindle copy, but I'm really bummed that I don't know where the book is (I've found I much prefer paper books, to be honest.)

Y'know, I just tried to explain the plot and realized I have no idea how. The whole series seems very done-in-one for each individual book, but it all leads to one point, so I'm having trouble sussing out what to describe as the plot.

Victorian London where vampires and werewolves are relatively common and have social status (so long as they don't just murder people willy-nilly). The main character was born with a certain "defect" that means when she touches a super-natural creature, it becomes human for as long as she touches it. From there it's political intrigue, mysteries, lesbians in Victorian menswear, fancy hats, dirigibles, an acting troupe, and some werewolf romance (not the drawn-out over all five books kind. The kind where we get a settled couple being a settled couple, because will-they-won't-they gets old).

(And as far as it getting "gayer," there are actually more LGB(Q?) characters in the main cast than straight characters. But it's not primarily a romance, so it's not the focus of the books.)

Also, there's a great teen-series prequel called Espionage & Etiquette that's about a finishing school for young ladies training to be spies. It's pretty fantastic too.

The mention the OotBO early on, but I wasn't 100% sure until a younger version of a certain character shows up.

Younger character is freaking adorable.
