The story online if anyone wants to read it (I'll probably read it tonight). http://www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/59084/

If it makes me hate roses, I'm not interested.

I scanned it. Didn't really see the roses mentioned much.

I thought this was Pyewacket (by Rosemary Weir, illustrated by Charles Pickard) at first.

I love Pyewacket!

I met a cat named Pyewacket once! He was the fattest cat I've ever seen - picking him up was like picking up a rolled sleeping bag, but heavier. Still, he was quite agile and could jump up on low walls and would play with bits of plants. He was pretty old, too, around 17, according to his owners. They said he was supposed to be on a diet, but other people kept bringing him food.

He lived at a house in Newport Beach, CA, right on the bay. He was a rich cat.

/cool story

This story will probably make me cry. Like my usual dumbass self, I read the ending first.

I don't understand - what's the problem with roses?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The cat hated them (very minor detail in the story). It's a great short story. Beautiful slum cat is sold as "royal cat with pedigree", treated like a royal prisoner by her owners, but she prevails and makes the life she wants for herself!

Thank you so much for making this post!!! I was looking for this story for so long (I read it when I was a kid, but forgot author/title). It is a wonderful, very inspiring story, highly recommend everyone read it!
