Reading this makes me think you're in my province (the min wage is the same) but where I am it's going back and forth between 140-145 cents/litre (not regulated, but gas stations are typically the same at any given time across the board). The public transit isn't very cheap, and varies depending on how far you're going across town, (and does go to a lot of places that are like 2 hours from downtown) but the service is decent enough. Uh, usually.

I don't know about the average cost of living here but it's pretty high methinks.
