I think gas is about 3.40/gallon right now? It definitely went down recently because I usually have to pay $60 to fill the tank from warning-light empty to completely full, and Monday I only paid $54.

I tried to find the average cost of living in my state, but couldn't find a figure in dollars--all the websites I checked based it on some scale where the US average is 100. My state is about 117, if it helps at all. Minimum wage is 7.25/hour.

Everyone travels by car here because there is no public transportation (it's a small state; even our big city has only around 100,000 people). I guess if you live really close to your job you could go by bike or walk, but we get bad winters that last forever.
