The only one of those illustrations I ever found to really feel creepy was the Mad Hatter's tea party one where Alice was sitting in a large armchair, kind-of slumped forward, with the pulled-back look of her hair very exaggerated. She looked like she was trying to be some Evil Mastermind™.
