I do agree with your point, people usually tend to see male, brooding characters in a WAY better light than female characters. I think there are only a few exceptions (Squall Leonhart from FF8 doesn't seem to have that many fans)...

idk, fandom picks and chooses who they love or hate. Sometimes it's the girl, sometimes the guy.

I think the only fandom I've been in so far that has been accepting and loving of ALL female characters involved is the "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" fandom. Other than that, I've never seen it happen.
