Exactly. Crossposted from Tumblr:

"Firstly - Thramsay is not a romantic ship; it’s just a relationship. When I say that I like Thramsay - I’m not saying that I think Theon and Ramsay are deeply in love with each other and that they are going to be skipping off into the sunset together… no, nothing at all like that. What I am saying is that I like the dynamic between Theon and Ramsay. It is a completely one-sided relationship built on obsession, dependence, power play and torture - to me that is the opposite of romance. Let’s compare Thramsay to another, more popular, ship at the moment – Hannigram. Sure… Hannibal isn’t actually physically torturing Will, but he is mentally trying to break him. He’s feeding him human meat, I mean – it’s definitely not romantic! I do see the two ships as similar, yet one seems to be commonly accepted and the other isn’t.

Secondly – What people choose to ship in a fictional setting does not, in any way, have a bearing on their real life moral compass. It’s fictional. Let’s be real… there are hardly any ships in A Song of Ice and Fire that anyone would realistically say is a functional and healthy relationship; so the amount of shit that gets thrown to Thramsay fans always makes me laugh. Having an interest in dark things and things that are taboo is actually quite normal for a lot of people… and in a fandom that has no problem with incest, I’m betting a lot of us have these interests. However a fantasy is just a fantasy, and it’s just for fun. I’m sure that most people who ship Jaime and Cersei aren’t hopping into bed with their brothers and sisters, so why do people assume that Thramsay shippers are advocating torture? "

As someone who ships both Thramsay and Hannibal/Will, there are WORLDS between the two ships. They're both fucked up, but in completely different ways and I don't think comparing them leads anywhere. It's a different kind of fucked up, and I don't think the comparison serves in any way to make someone understand either ship better.

Thing is, I think many Hannigram shippers do ship it romantically in some capacity.
