Well, it's finally happened. Steven Moffat has gone mad with power. (50th anniversary spoilers!)

Edit: Only John Hurt's statement is confirmed. The rest of it, what Hurt's role ACTUALLY is, is rumour.

I actually think it's great, and it's gonna be awesome (and to be frank, I don't think it's really his fault that Eccleston isn't returning. If anything, blame Eccleston for not wanting to show up. /shrug)

I think I officially hate this man.

What the actual fuck? That...that just doesn't make any sense. It retcons so much of New Who that we shouldn't have bothered watching for the last 8 years.

It's one thing to blame Moffat, and he's certainly a total fucking moron who shouldn't have been born, but who does he answer to at the BBC and why are they letting him do the stuff he does? I understand that there is an immediate incentive in merchandising, but this is a franchise that could last another 50 years without another cancellation. And he is literally ruining it. How much more handwaving away are we expected to do? It's unforgivable in this day and age to blatantly disregard continuity on the most successful and most watched TV show in the world.

I've been struggling with boredom to get through 7.2 so I wouldn't be lost for the anniversary special, but now I'm not sure I'll bother tuning in when it airs. It's too soon to say just yet, but right now I have very little faith in the special. I'm just shocked that he could sink lower than saying the 50th anniversary special shouldn't be a fanfest and now I'm worried how much lower he's sunk without our knowing it until the special airs.

Christ. I really, really hope the rumour turns out to be false, because retconning canon like that would just be stupid.
