I don't watch MLP, but I find this secret adorable. And people correctly pronouncing French words/idioms is something I like very much. An instant +1 to my respect for them.

And no, these children aren't French! They're American.

Holy hell, I actually had those tapes as a kid I think they are still in my attic somewhere.

I remember them being honestly pretty bad all around some of the voice overs were godawful, but maybe that was just the Spanish version.

It is my dark dream that bronies one day grow to be the most sophisticated and learned fandom of all time.

And shit up culture forever.

Embarrassingly enough, I'm right there with you OP, I was apparently mispronouncing nonpareil for years until I watched that episode. Learning how to properly pronounce a French word from a cartoon pony con man is something I doubt I'm ever going to tell my French speaking friends.

Do/did you pronounce it "non-pair-e-el" too? I just don't see "non-pah-ray" at all when I read it. @w@

yep pretty much admittedly I always have trouble with silent letters so I always included the l and made it sound like I was talking about a species of eel or something.

Funnily enough, "nonpareil" is an English word, but not a French one, even though it was derived from it, the correct phrase being "sans pareil". But the pronunciation is still French-ified, so it doesn't negate your accomplishment, OP! Good on you, rock on!

So they actually pronounce the words correctly? Because I have yet to see an American series where the actors pronounce French words correctly..

I don't watch the show but I hunted down clips for "nonpareil" and "haute couture": while heavily accented, it's good.

French is one of my two first languages and I was rather surprised that they actually tried to properly pronounce words like Haute couture in that show. Made me like Rarity a lot, ngl. That mare knows her métier ;)
