Ahh crazy is always a fun thing to watch unfold. I never really got people's obsession with creating drama and proclaiming Fandom A to be the worst thing ever just cause its got some crazy people in it. I turn on the news for 5 minutes or just watch the kind of people who go to sports games, and I realize that its not fandom that is crazy or creepy, our whole species is a little on the crazy and creepy side.

Although I do sometimes wonder what an intelligent alien species would think of us if their first contact with humans was through the internet.

Imagine if our first contact with an intelligent alien species was through their internet? I can just see the best and brightest minds in the Pentagon going 'wtf?'

Now I'm imagining what kind of fandoms aliens would have and what their equivalent to human fandom wank would be.

Oh, there'd be so much wank between the the people who claim anyone who doesn't really enjoy Primary Race x Symbiotic Fungi Species B is a B-phobe, since members of the primary race who preferred to bond with Symbiotic Fungi Species B were traditionally oppressed by the members who bonded with Symbiotic Fungi Species A.

Also, there'd be so much whining from classic oldschool fans about how these new shows use this sonic frequency that can be picked up by their whiskers, because the technology for transmitting that sonic frequency over their equivalent of a television was only recently developed, and the old people believe that anyone who enjoys it is obviously just an immature plebe who needs fancy newfangled stimulus and doesn't understand that Real Art Is Not Felt By The Whiskers.

Galaxy Quest. An alien species whose first contact with Earth was through television. Specifically, a Star Trek analogue, and Gilligan's Island. Worse, they didn't really have a concept of 'fiction'.

They were adorable, though.

da

Came here to say this!

Oh, so true. The difference is that being crazy over sports is deemed socially normal.
