Way back when LOK was airing there was a whole debate about the characters' skin color (specifically anyone from the water tribe) since it was depicted as slightly lighter in some scenes. Which was, of course, horribly racist of the show etc etc. (Personally, I'm of the view that it's an artistic thing to depict a certain mood in the scene. It's not like Korra's ever depicted as white. She looks one way in "direct sunlight" and another by "sunset" or "firelight" illumination, get over it).

Sifu Kisu had the misfortune of weighing in on the issue and saying that he didn't think it was a problem if Korra's skin looked lighter in certain scenes, adding she's a fictional race. It kinda exploded. He made one tumblr post about it asking people to calm down, IIRC, but that's about it. SJW have been accusing him of being racist and whitewashing ever since.

Frankly, I was just following his tumblr and tried to avoid the entire debacle. It's idiotic and this sort of thing makes it hard to remember that the issues are real and just the SJWs are completely ridiculous, so I avoid them as much as possible.

he posted some other stuff afterwards... it wasn't calming things down. I think those posts got taken down but I think the guy was more wary of leaving up the drama then out of any fear.

Sifu Kisu does not strike me as the type to give a fuck if people don't like him on the internet.
