Mostly sympathy? And an aversion to the idea that it is impossible for her to change.

I think you might be having a doomed hope there. It appears lifetimes of afterlife taught her absolutely nothing (in contrast to Tavros) but "eyes on the prize" and maybe a little more awareness that she'd rather have friends then not... but actually acquiring them...

I'm reminded of the frog and the scorpion. She seems to be the living embodiment of the story sometimes.

i find this amusing, as someone with a personality disorder, i'm actually less sympathetic to vriska.

that's probably bc she cuts a little too close to the bone, though.

The really odd thing is that the family member with a personality disorder is the one who identified Vriska as having a personality disorder. I'd been definitely not going there because said family member also insists that particular personality disorder is hardly ever associated with violence.

Borderline initially, then pulled out the DSMIV and pointed out a couple of others which would also fit -- possibly antisocial and narcissistic.

I mean you can go "apples and oranges" there. Troll culture is by human standards sociopathic in a lot of ways, so there's a certain argument that such a society would result in personality disorders manifesting in entirely different ways.

This is why I'm curious about the "current" trolls as they were in Beforus. How was Vriska in that society?

We'll never know, obviously. But we can see that at the very least they have the same lack of value placed on the very young. Meenah was no more surprised that Grubs were crawling around to fend for themselves then an Alternian would be.

Beforus Feferi created a different culture, but I don't think her version was actually all that less savage. Just violent in place of violently racist.
