Seriously? I hope you clicked an above link and got informed or something before you started passing judgment on somebody you've never heard of.

*shrug* It hardly matters, does it?

As it relates to fandom secrets or even as it relates to that author, no I don't suppose it does matter.

But it's indicative of a person who doesn't bother to think for themselves before coming to conclusions about whom or what to support, and that's something that can certainly matter if not to us or this author then perhaps to the people in anon's RL community who could be affected by her (or his) sheeplike mentality when it comes to issues of local importance.

And before anyone says "well, this is just recreational preferences not real-life issues!" I'd say that generally I find people who are engaged in their community and come to thoughtful conclusions IRL don't typically throw all that out the window when it comes to recreation -- particularly in situations like this.

True. But I think in fandom, often just going "don't need the drama, steering clear," is the best choice. Even if there's a chance you may be wrong, it's often just not worth the effort.

But people have all sorts of silly, arbitrary reasons for steering clear of a particular author. Maybe they don't like the book cover, or the author's name reminds them of an ex, or they never read books about _________. Those are all arguably snap judgments, so what's the big deal?

Difference being, when I look at a cover or read a blurb, I look at the cover and read the blurb before deciding something looks like shit and I should steer clear of it. I don't automatically take the word of a stranger who says "this person is bad," but doesn't say why.
