Yeah, they share an apartment. It's pretty common for an early exposition scene to be set with Sherlock barging into Joan's room, putting a set of clothes on her bed, and telling her all about the known facts of the episode's crime while Joan goes "aldknakdng SHERLOCK I DON'T WANT TO GET UP YET" and he bounces on his heels like a puppy who really wants to go on a walk.

It's pretty adorable.
